| Big Brothers Big Sisters / CIS: Middle School Mentoring Matters |
Agency: Communities In Schools-Central Texas
Description:
The Middle School Mentoring Matters (MMM) program pairs middle school students in need with caring adult mentors, in order to build long-term, one-to-one relationships.
Communities in Schools and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Texas have come together to create a program that enables more young people in Central Texas to finish school, improve their grades, steer clear of drugs and alcohol, and have more positive relationships all around.
The Middle School Mentoring project uses a school to community model where mentors meet students initially in the school setting and after 3 months, have the opportunity to participate in community visits with their mentees.
Required time commitment is 1 hour per week, 1 full calendar year.
Mentors (Bigs) will receive support, training, and guidance every step of the way in the mentoring process. Becoming a Big Brother or Big Sister provides a wonderful opportunity for volunteers to make a significant difference in a young person's life while having fun at the same time!
